Thalipeeth is a Maharashtrian traditional breakfast recipe that can be enjoyed with curd, pickle, chutney, or ketchup. It is a perfect combination of cereals, millets, and pulses, combined with vegetables, making it a complete wholesome meal. Thalipeeth dough is typically made by mixing two to three different flours such as bajra, jowar, wheat, and besan. Ready-made thalipeeth mixes are also available in the market.
Adding vegetables like onions, coriander, methi, grated dudhi, and carrots to the thalipeeth dough will enhance its nutritional value and make it even more nutritious.
Ingredients:
- Whole Wheat flour – ¼ cup
- Rice flour – ¼ cup
- Jowar flour – ¼ cup
- Bajra Flour – ¼ cup
- Besan – ¼ cup
- Onion (Chopped) – 1 Medium
- Coriander leaves (Chopped) – ¼ Cup
- Green chilli (Chopped) – 1 no
- Ginger-Garlic (paste) – 1 Teaspoon
- Sesame Seeds – 1 Tablespoon
- Red Chilli Powder – ½ Teaspoon
- Cumin Powder – 1 Teaspoon
- Coriander Seed Powder – 1 Teaspoon
- Salt – To taste
- Water – as required
- Oil – 2-3 Teaspoon
Method:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all the flours with other ingredients except water and oil.
- Make a firm soft dough by adding some water to it.
- Take a small dough ball & pat it into a circle on butter papper or wet muslin cloth, using water on yours fingers.
- Make 3-4 holes in the thalipeeth with your finger to help it cook evenly.
- Heat a nonstick pan over a medium flame.
- Coat it with some oil and place the thalipeeth on it, filling the holes with a few drops of oil.
- Cook until golden brown, on a medium low flame
- Serve the thalipeeth with curd and mint chutney.
