Every new year brings with it new hopes, new opportunities and a chance to rediscover yourself. Good health makes you feel happy, confident and positive. Discipline and commitment to exercise are vital to a healthy body. However, managing your DIET plays an even bigger role.
Sharing 10 simple, easy-to-implement steps to help you in your journey towards a healthier YOU.
- Never Skip Your Breakfast: We all are short of time in the morning hours and hence tend to skip breakfast or have it hours later. Simple options for breakfast can include Muesli-Milk, Fruits, Boiled Eggs, etc. It is not really difficult, do give it a try.
- Drink Plenty of Water: Water is an intrinsic part of our body cells and blood and is critical to maintain body temperature. Simply aim to drink around 2-3 litres of water each day. This will also help you feel “full” and thereby keep you away from binging.
- Add Fibre to Your Meals: Include salads, fruits, cereals like oats regularly in meals. Fibre being difficult to digest, keeps you feeling full for long without adding substantial calories.
- Plan Your Restaurant Visits: When eating out, opt for a Lunch over a Dinner as this will give your body enough time to digest the extra calories.
- Snack before your Dine Out: If you plan to go out for dinner, you can eat a fruit or have a glass of butter milk before you step out. This will help you not feel hungry by the time you have your dinner.
- Shopping Time: When you go shopping, you can carry some dry snacks like almonds, walnuts, roasted chana to munch intermittently to avoid long gaps.
- Say NO to Processed Foods: This is the easiest way to be healthy. You can explore healthier options like steamed corn, popcorn, roasted puffs, etc.
- Chew Your Food Thoroughly: Our brain requires 20 minutes to understand that we have eaten food. Chewing for longer, taking smaller morsels and not eating in a hurry will help satiate and not over eat.
- Weight Loss Fads: Do not fall prey to these. There are no shortcuts to getting healthy. The faster you lose weight, the higher are the chances of it coming back. Consistency in good eating habits is better than starving to lose weight.
- Use Smaller Plates: Though this sounds silly, it is a good way to stay away from over filling your plate.
