Horsegram Soup | Nutritious Soup | Healthy Recipe

Horsegram soup is made from highly nutritious horsegram legume. Horsegram is high in fibre and protein & helps you stay satiated. It can be had as appetiser or a meal by itself, especially for those who want to eat healthy and light. It has anti-inflammatory properties. It has good antioxidant content which helps boost immune system. The fibre in horsegram aids digestion, prevents constipation.

Ingredients:
  • Raw Whole Horse Gram / Kollu / Kulith – ½ cup
  • Water – 3 cups approximately
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida / Hing – a pinch
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 2 sprig
  • Tamarind Pulp – 1 to 2 Tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper powder – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
Method:
  1. Dry roast horsegram in pan and pressure cook for 8-10 whistles
  2. Drain the water once cool & keep the water aside and finely blenderise it to form a smooth puree.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, cumin, urad dal, hing , curry leaves, and let it splutter.
  4. Add turmeric and add horsegram water, horsegram puree, mix well and bring it to boil.
  5. Add in tamarind pulp, pepper powder & salt as per taste.
  6. Simmer for few minutes, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
