Red Rice Idli | Oil Free | Healthy Breakfast Recipe

Red rice gets its reddish colour from an antioxidant called anthocyanin. It is a compound found in various purple and red coloured fruits and vegetables. Rich in iron and fiber, red rice is also known to reduce the inflammation in the body. It also helps in lowering the blood pressure and control blood cholesterol levels, becoming one of the healthy alternatives for people with heart problems.

 

Ingredients:
  • Red Rice, Soaked 10-12 hrs – 1 Cup
  • Black Urad Dal, Soaked 10-12 hrs – 1 Cup
  • Red Rice, Cooked – ½ Cup
  • Fenugreek Seeds, Soaked – 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt to taste

 

Method:
  1. Grind the soaked rice and cooked rice without water in the blender, until you get a slightly coarse batter. Pour into a large bowl.
  2. Grind the soaked black gram without water in the blender until very smooth.
  3. Mix this with the rice paste. Ferment the mixture at room temperature for 8-12 hours. Add salt and mix.
  4. Pour the batter into the idli mold and steam for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Red rice idlis are ready to serve with sambhar and chutney.
